Poodle
The Poodle is the world's oldest water retriever, circus performer and truffle hunter. Despite the Poodle being regarded as the national dog of France, the breed is in fact believed to have originated in Germany. It has subsequently gained universal acceptance as one of the world's most popular breeds of dog. Part of this popularity is no doubt due to the fact that the Poodle comes in three different sizes and an almost unlimited variety of colours, so buyers can mix and match sizes and colourings to suit their own personal preferences. Poodle (Standard)The Standard Poodle was the original Poodle breed. A large, strong, active gun dog, he was on occasions also used for pulling milk carts and performing in the circus. Today he is primarily a pet, as well as being one of the most spectacular and noble looking of all show dogs. Originally the Standard Poodle was exhibited in both corded and brushed coat styles, but in Australia only the traditional lion or continental clip are favoured. Professional trimming is recommended to keep him looking his striking best. The Standard Poodle loves to gallop and play, and will happily take as much exercise as you like to give him. High-spirited and full of joie-de-vivre, he is bold and assertive, making an alert watchdog and highly intelligent companion for all age groups. Poodle (Miniature)The Miniature Poodle is the most popular of the three breeds. He is an entertaining companion for all ages and very responsive to training. To aid his efficiency as a retriever of waterfowl, the Poodle's traditional coat trim was originally devised to aid his progress in the water and, at the same time, protect his vital organs and joints from the cold. Today his glamorous coat enhances his smart, stylish appearance, giving him an air of distinction and dignity. Both for appearance and comfort, he will need to be clipped every eight weeks, but the Miniature Poodle thoroughly enjoys his regular visits to the beauty parlour. Poodle (Toy)With the success of the Miniature Poodle, the challenge to reduce size even further was just too much for breeders to resist. By experimenting with mating small-sized Miniatures together, the delightful, diminutive Toy Poodle was developed. He is an active, gay, smart little chap who carries himself very proudly. Decorative, entertaining and very clean is his habits, the Toy is ideal for the older or less active person. He is particularly well suited to those with limited living accommodation - such as flat or home unit dwellers. He needs to live inside, where he thrives on being an integral part of the household The Toy Poodle needs professional clipping to look his stylish best. He enjoys being groomed, providing he is handled gently, and revels in the admiring attention he receives after a day at the beauty parlour. This extroverted little dandy makes a very rewarding companion.
